What to Expect from the Emerging Leaders MBA

    Last updated 3 months ago

The Emerging Leaders MBA program is designed for individuals who are recent college graduates or who have minimal professional work experience. This two year, full-time program provides business students with superior knowledge in a particular field and enhances their ability to succeed in an international business setting. Students who participate in the program can choose from eight different academic concentrations so they can fine tune their skills and increase their future job prospects.

    Focused academic concentration

Students in the McCallum Graduate School of Business Emerging Leaders program take eight required courses and five electives of their choice. This allows MBA candidates to develop a curriculum that will best prepare them for their future career objectives. Students can either choose a specific business field such as finance and accounting or they can select a theme-based concentration to develop a thorough understanding of industry trends.

    International business experience

The final requirement to graduate from the Emerging Leaders MBA program is participation in a 10-day international trip to meet with global business professionals and government leaders. The purpose of this trip is to expose MBA students to how business is conducted across cultures and borders. This experience gives students a greater sense of the global nature of business and the ability to succeed in an international business setting.

    Combined degree options

Business professionals who earn two graduate-level degrees are more attractive to future employers and have more career opportunities. Students in the Emerging Leaders MBA program can earn a Master of Science degree as they earn their MBA degree. The credits earned in four of the MBA courses count toward the MS degree, meaning that students can earn dual degrees by only taking six additional classes.

An Overview of the Human Factors in the Information Design Program

    Last updated 3 months ago

Businesses use a variety of technologies to capture consumer attention and create lasting relationships. In order for these technological platforms to be successful, companies need to understand how a customer will interact with an interface. This understanding will help companies create a more enjoyable consumer experience. Students in the information design program at the McCallum Graduate School of Business learn how to apply human factors into design solutions. Here’s how:

    Understanding user behavior

The focus of the information design program at the McCallum Graduate School of Business is to study how humans interact with interface designs. This means that students develop an understanding of user abilities, goals, and values when working with a particular product. Our graduates help companies design social media and online consumer forums that won’t confuse or frustrate the user. By helping companies create a positive user experience, our students are able to increase the success of consumer products and deliver value to the companies they serve.

Learning how people interact with products

Students who participate in the information design program learn how to employ various research methods to discover consumers’ ultimate values and beliefs regarding particular products. McCallum Graduate School students develop a portfolio that includes ethnography study, field research, survey design, and usability testing. This experience places our graduates at a higher demand at leading companies because they can conduct the research needed to study how users interact with technology.

Applying concepts to a diverse market

Because consumer values and abilities tend to vary, the information design program focuses on making a product universally accessible. This means studying how members of various age groups and cultural backgrounds will likely use and interact with the developed product.

Should You Take the GRE or GMAT?

    Last updated 3 months ago

If you’re considering graduate school, you’ve probably heard that you need to take either the GRE or the GMAT test. These admissions standard exams are designed to test your ability to succeed in a graduate level academic program. While they both measure a similar skill set, there are some major differences in their usefulness and formats. Here are a few tips that will help you decide which test to take:

Talk to admission counselors at your graduate school

The top factor to consider when deciding between these two tests is whether your graduate school accepts them. The GRE is a more general examination that can be used to gain admission into a variety of graduate school programs. The GMAT, on the other hand, was specifically designed by the deans of business schools to test an MBA candidate’s aptitude. While some graduate business schools are beginning to accept GRE scores, not all believe it is the best way to gauge a student’s success.

Research the format of each test

Both the GRE and the GMAT test an applicant’s critical thinking, verbal, and communication skills. However, the GRE requires more vocabulary knowledge and greater writing skills. This requirement puts native English speakers at a significant advantage when taking the GRE. Contrary to popular belief, the GMAT doesn’t test for any specialized business knowledge, such as finance or accounting.

Decide when you will be applying

Because the GMAT is still the standard for gaining admission into graduate business programs, it is probably your best choice if you already know you will be pursuing an MBA degree. The GRE score lasts for five years and is more useful for students who aren’t sure when they will be applying to school, but want to pursue a business-focused graduate program at some point.
