Summertime in Waltham is too beautiful to be spent entirely indoors. If you need a break from your challenging graduate school classes, spend one of your days off enjoying some activities around town:
- Going for Ice Cream
Lizzy’s Homemade Ice Cream is the perfect retreat on a hot summer day. With unusual flavors such as apple pie, ginger, and Grapenuts as well as a variety of toppings, Lizzy’s always has interesting new frozen treats for you to try.
- Exploring the Riverwalk
Following the Charles River for 20 miles, the Riverwalk is a beautiful path used by joggers, cyclists, and those who simply want to enjoy the fresh air. You can spend a lazy afternoon fishing and bird watching, feed the ducks and geese, or get some exercise in a serene and natural setting.
- Hiking at Prospect Hill Park
For a break from busy everyday life, head over to Prospect Hill Park, a 250-acre urban oasis featuring two hills with breathtaking views. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the park’s many ramadas, or for an extended adventure, pack a tent and camp out!
- Kayaking Down the Charles River
From May to October, you can rent a kayak at the Charles River Canoe and Kayak Center. After you have sharpened your paddling skills along the peaceful Upper Charles River, you can head over to the Lower Basin for a challenge among larger boats and the strong current created by the dam.
